Detail of fresco representing the martyrdom of Saint Sisinio

Giovanni Battista Bagutti painted in 1816 frescoes at the side of the Main Altar of the Church of San Sisinio , among which one representing the torture of Saint Sisinio.

It represents some killed martyrs and others who are waiting for the torture, while the executioner raises the stumped head of Saint Sisinio as a trophy.

It's a fantasy interpretation of the author, because historical sources refer that San Sisinio and his companions San Martirio and Sant'Alessandro have been first tortured and finally burnt because of the fidelity to their Faith.
