Preface
Torriani or Della Torre from Mendrisio
It was a long and patient work that I started conscious of the fact, that to speak about these things nowadays brings negative comments. So I really did it for my own information and thus divided my work:
1- Our family tree 2- Notes of the documents 3- Epistles 4- Documents for some biographies 5- Other branches 6- Note of the relative documents 7- Different documents
The first to speak about the Torriani family in Mendrisio was the late cav. Damiano Muoni in a pamphlet published in 1866 in Milan. It was re-published in 1884 in Bellinzona as an excerpt of the Historical Bulletin of Canton Ticino, and the publisher was Emilio Motta. Count Clemente della Torre Valsassina , admiral of the Italian Royal Navy.also studied the different branches of the della Torre family and published different pamphlets as well as collecting all the coats of arms used by the numerous family in Italy and elsewhere. Muoni had a large amount of documents to work on and he scratched some out without overlooking the main ones.. Now we will go to the first chapter.

Introduction
by don Edoardo Torriani
Guido
was the celebrated leader of Milan , Guido and all of his family
were exiled from Milan in 1311 and he, being not the first of the
Torrianis’ but the one about whom there was more information, will be
referred to as the founder of the Torriani family. Guido died in Cremona in 1312, Simone (and others not mentioned) were his successors. Simone’s wife Was Antiocchia Visconti from Milan. He drowned in the river Adda after the loss of the battle of Vaprio in 1324. He was succeeded by Finiberto who found refuge in Como when his family was defeated. Authors Litta and Muoni mention this fact without commenting on it.. He had several children and one of them called Guido or Guidino lived at Mendrisio and also had possessions in Como. Suseso or Sisinio was his heir together with other offspring. Litta writes that he married the noble woman Francesca Rusconi or Rusca. Suseno fathered Gaspare. Having found other documents we obtain the following:
Agostino
husband of the noble woman Castellina Frumenti or Formenti from Como. He died in 1515 and had the following children:
Giovanni, Bartolomeo, Gaspare, Bernardo e Gerolamo

Genealogy

|
|
Agostino’s eldest children Giovanni and Bartolomeo are the founders of the Torriani family from Mendrisio. Prior Torriani himself is a descendant of Giovanni. Gaspare, Bernardo and Gerolamo’s branches left Mendrisio and are presumably extinct.
